Research in the SoCom Lab
Our research aims to discover the mechanisms by which people utilize nonverbal cues in the face and body to form consequential impressions of others, including basic social categorizations (e.g., sex, race, age), inferred social categories (e.g., sexual orientation, political party affiliation), and social evaluations (e.g., attractiveness, likability). Our research is at the forefront of the burgeoning field known as “Social Vision,” a theoretically and methodologically innovative area of research at the intersection of communication science, social psychology, and vision/cognitive science.
